Herberger Theater Tour

Hello everyone,

This is just a reminder that we will not be meeting in our typical location on Monday. Both 320 and 420 have been cancelled so that we may have the honor of touring the Herberger Theater Center located in downtown Phoenix. The Herberger will be hosting us for approximately one hour. Please arrive promptly for the tour at 4:40 in the Herberger's lobby. We will be having department meetings after the tour; so don't leave when it concludes. Find your department chair and a place to meet.

About the Herberger Theater Center
The Herberger Theater Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as the premier performance venue, arts incubator and events.

The Herberger Theater Center was conceived as a pivotal piece in the redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Phoenix. Built in 1989 to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as a performance venue and arts incubator, the Herberger Theater Center has contributed to the cultural and educational development of the Valley. Each year, approximately 175,000 patrons, including 30,000 school-aged children share the unique experience of live performing arts.

Hola!

Hey everyone,

This is Matt. I went on the AH Fall Retreat with everyone a couple weeks ago. It was nice to be on the other side of things, and be able to help out with everything (even though I'm not officially an alum yet). I'm currently doing my AH internship with Helping Hands Housing Services (through Public Allies/Americorps), and am at their 16th St. and Roeser property. We could definitely use some volunteers out here. If anyone is looking for some PLE hours please let me know (yahi2003@yahoo.com) and I can hook you up with the right person over here. If you want to find out more info about the organization just go to www.helpinghandsaz.org. See some of you around campus or town.

March of Dimes

Hey AHers!

So in regard to the speaker we had today from the March of Dimes:

Remember Stacey questioning where the other 10% of their funds go?

I recalled that this organization has been criticized for their distribution of funds, so I wanted to look them up to see the funds break down:

Program Expenses 76.7%
Administrative Expenses 7.4%
Fundraising Expenses 15.8%

To break it down some more: for every dollar they raise, they spend $0.15 to get it.

Perhaps I will do this analysis after every speaker so we can get an idea of how organizations typically spend their dollars?

Until later-

Jenna

Welcome to AHSA!

Hello and welcome everyone to AHSA! As your executive team, we’ve been working hard and are very excited for what we have planned this year. As a new addition this semester, we have added this blog.

This blog is for all of you to use, so get creative!
Please feel free to make posts, comment on pictures (more to come), check the event calendar to see what activities you need to be at, and look at the (coming soon) community service calendar for places to volunteer. You can even post questions, network with alumni, and talk about nonprofits or anything you want!

We want this to be a resource for all of us to communicate to one another and really tap into the student association side of AHSA. So….let the blogging begin!

Sincerely,

AHSA Executive Team
